Jim has embraced his own “Rewired, not Retired” approach for the past ten years.  He loved his work, and loved to travel with his wife — with a focus on appreciating people and cultures.  Throughout this period his mantra was that he would retire when work got in the way of other things he wanted to do — so he finally “retired” at the beginning of 2025.  They ramped up their travel even more, and have now visited 105 countries.

As the son of two journalists he enjoys writing, and began sharing short snippets from global travels with friends.  They encouraged him to share more broadly.  This blog gathers all of those insights about places and peoples, organized by location for anyone considering a visit.  

As background, in 2010 Jim founded ChapterTwo, where he guided C-Suite executives through a process of discovering what they would really love to do for their next role, then when the time was right make that choice happen.  Through this work he saw way too many examples of  talented leaders who kept working largely because they did not have a plan for replacing the structure and energy they got from “being in charge”. 

As background Jim was an IBM executive for the bulk of his career, then “retired” in his prime and founded and ran a sequence of three companies.  During that sequel period he discovered and embraced the Pay-It-Forward approach — and served on a number of not-for-profit Boards.  His goals for his legacy include earning a reputation for always being ethical and finding ways to help others.
